Do you like a bargain? Then you’ll love volunteering at NOA’s Bargain Shop thrift store. You would assist customers with donations and purchases. You would also help clients with vouchers shop for clothing for themselves and their children. You would responsible for helping with the merchandising of the store. This includes straightening racks, organizing by size, and removing items not appropriate.
Our Bargain Shop thrift store often receives calls from people who would like to donate a piece of furniture or an appliance. Please join our Furniture Movers, a roster of volunteers with trucks or vans who are willing to help with an occasional pick-up and delivery to our Bargain Shop thrift store.
Women and children need your help! Children’s Program Volunteers guide activities for the children in shelter while their mothers attend support groups.
Help make a positive impact on a battered woman’s life while learning
more about our legal system. The Legal Advocate Assistant attends domestic
violence court with NOA’s legal advocate and assists by taking notes, offering
individual support, safety planning and distributing brochures to victims.
Help
empower victims in a strengths-based advocacy program. The Family Advocate
Assistant works with the Family and CPS advocates to offer assistance to
victims by offering TANF, Medicaid, Food Stamp and Section 8 Housing
assessment, budgeting assistance, individual support, case management and grant
application research and assistance for education.
NOA offers legal advocacy and support services for every domestic
violence case in Dawson and Lumpkin. This leaves a mountain of paperwork to be
filed and safety check phone calls to be made as part of the Family Violence
Intervention Program. The Legal Assistant Volunteer assists with this paperwork
and follow-up with clients and assessing their needs and safety.
Community educational and special events are exciting and integral activities at NOA. Make a positive impact while having fun and meeting new people by assisting the Volunteer Coordinator with special events and public relations activities.
Help make someone feel special! Many times the shelter is full of children. This can be a stressful time for their mothers. Make a difference by implementing structured activities for children and/or women in the shelter.
